About Astrid
Hello, I’m Astrid, a 32yo Irish yogini and nidrista living in Bristol, using yoga nidra, breathwork and restorative yoga to support my recovery from Long Covid, and teaching these practices to you to bring radical rest into your life.
Having started out on my love affair with yoga while studing Psychology at university in 2012 which took me to practice in India, South America and Australia, I qualified as a 200 hour Vinyasa Yoga teacher with YogaHub Dublin in lockdown in 2020. I started teaching my glorious Monday Moonday yoga classes online based around the cycle of the moon, linked with the menstrual cycle. Shoutout to my original Moonday yogis I love you all!
After burning out from an intense locked-down Social Work Masters, I got Long Covid in 2021 and my life utterly changed. I became totally disabled for about 18 months, using a wheelchair and mobility scooter to get around, experiencing intense fatigue, headaches, light sensitivity, nerve pain, breathlessness, heart palpitations, the list goes on! Long Covid is no joke, nor is Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and the many other chronic health and autoimmune and autonomic nervous system disorders that so many of us (especially women and people assigned female at birth) suffer with, with total disregard from the Western patriarchal racist ableist medical system.
Luckily my yoga background gave me the tools of breathwork to recover from breathlessness, and I began my deep journey into the magic of yoga nidra to restore the functioning of my very upset autonomic nervous system. I can’t explain how much yoga nidra has improved my health, both physical and mental. It is such a magical practice where you flow in and out of states of consciousness, it helps you fall asleep, it connects you to your imagination and creativity, and to your unconscious self. It is incredibly rejuvenating and revitalising, a 20 minute yoga nidra can make you feel like you’ve just had the best night’s sleep and you hop up from the bed or sofa feeling thoroughly restored.
Fast forward to 2024 when I did a Breathwork Teacher Training with YogaHub, to 2025 as I completed the Total Yoga Nidra Teacher Training with the Yoga Nidra Network and have begun teaching on Suzy Bolt’s Rest Repair Recover yoga for Long Covid program. I am passionate about sharing the broad range of restorative tools yoga offers us, to help us rest to resist burnout, stress and exhaustion, discrimination and oppression that we see and experience in this world. For this reason I am warmly welcoming to disabled people, LGBTQIA+ folk, BBPoC and anyone else who particularly needs a safe space to rest just as they are, to build resilience and communities of care. My teacher training in Trauma-Informed Community Yoga with the Bristol Yoga Roots Project in 2025 confirmed my purpose in offering accessible, inclusive yoga to people who need it most.
In my classes you can expect imaginative yoga nidra, restorative breathwork, and general restful and mindful yogic techniques to restore balance and calm to the nervous system. I don’t take myself too seriously as I know how vital joy and humour is when we’re feeling wiped out.
If you want to incorporate more rest into your busy life while still benefitting from the magic of yoga through yoga nidra rather than pushing your body to further exhaustion through power yoga, or you want to learn to harness the therapeutic power of your breath to bring you into a state of peace and calm, or you’re just looking for an actually accessible yoga class from a disabled yogini who understands chronic energy conditions, then you are in the right place my friend!
Love and moonlight,
Astrid xx
